I picked this up from ebay for $7.50 its a variable voltage reg with caps all solder on a board and comes with leads for power in and out. This facilitates making a quick variable voltage box mod if your soldering skills are not up to par.

Wow that is a pretty big board but the plus is that all the caps are there.

Gonna take a healthy sized box to utilize this but if it vapes well who cares.

FYI the Phidius and REO and such mods of the larger size are only about 2 1/8 -2 1/2" wide.

There is bit more to it than that, I assume it has the correct (ESR, type, voltage etc) caps (not whatever is available at RS or none at all), a choke and a heat sink.

This is the attention to detail you never see on most (usually none) of the various mod plans floating around.

This complete board should perform quite well and outlast any of the home-brew designs out there.

You need a little room to make a good VV voltage mod. Cramming some of the recommended components into lighters and 2AA battery boxes is not how it's done.

Never said it was the way to be done but enclosures as large as you would need are not easily found in a comfortable hand grip.

Would I do this project??? Resounding YES.

Would most people "luv it" YES

Would most say that it is gonna be a bit bulky.... Yes.

    Just stating the facts.

Truthg be known I have been doing some brainstorming on how to make it comfortable in the hand while using this board.

  8. Well I finally finished the variable voltage box mod yesterday!! woohoo!! It was a tight fit in a 2x4x1 radio crack box but it fits nicely. Just need to tidy up the wiring a little long and the cover needs the epoxy filled holes sanded flush and painted. I'll post some pics a little later today to busy vaping on it right now. It works sweet with a 801 carto on it at 5.31v unloaded yes I said 801 carto (nhalers).

Variable Voltage board $10.25 shipped by MDfly
    Switch $2.19 3amp Radio crack
    2x4x1 box @2.99 Radio crack
    510 connector sealed $2.99 madvapes
    2x 18350's 1200 mah $5.79/piece madvapes

total=$30 in parts for a great vape machine
    build time aprox 2hrs

Some pics the wires need to be shortened and will be tucked out of the way over the weekend I'm having way to much fun vaping it right now. The board remains cold even under heavy vaping, I checked it with an IR temp gun today. The front cover needs some sanding where I filled the screw holes with Steel Epoxy and a quick paint. Have about 30min to finish it so aprox build time 2hrs

Nice job. The easy way to make a high quality mod

One of the benefits of a switching type regulator, plus it has a built in heat sink. The other benefit is with the increased efficiency vape times should be great.

This is very interesting for me because i have no idea about soldering and it seems to be very useful to me.

    jhkyu,
This is a fairly easy mod to build, the hardest part is soldering the atty connector. I'm not the best at soldering either if you take your time it's really not hard at all.
All i can say is once you build your first mod and vape on it your hooked!!

One thing folks should note these regulator assemblies are very efficient compared to the traditional linear type. Large bulky cells are not really needed.

And FWIW when you are using a buck (it lowers the DC and outputs DC), switching type regulator you now have a PWM controlled mod.

What kind of vape times you getting Cape?
