CR2 Batteries Blow up the Detonator / Burn Leg

Well i was completely wrong about using unprotected batteries. The 5 Volt Detonator did nothing to stop what happened. The vent holes may have helped to minimize the explosion but they did not stop it. It was pretty bad, I come to the forum tonight humbled and regretfull I ever used unprotected batteries.

OK so I had just gott some new Bright Blue CR2 batteries from Ebay. They were only a week old. They blew up and burned my leg, and scared the hell out of me. I had the Detonator in my pocket and I must have forgotten to turn it off or maybe it was off, I'm not sure.

Anyway " Boom" was the sound it made. I didn't have a chance to do any thing. The vent holes - did nothing. I do not recomend using Un Protected batteries at all. This could have been much worse if I was driving or holding it up to my face. I have heard of some protected CR2's but I do not know if they will run the 510 atty that is in my Detonator. I know some protected CR2's are out there and some are being developed / tested. If anyone has more info about Protected CR2's please post it up here.

I want everyone to be aware of what happen to me. Be carefull and stop using unprotected CR2's immediatly. This was much worse than I thought it would be. The explosion went through my pants pocket , boxers and into my leg. The JB weld nose cone held up fine.

Glad to see your ok! I couldn't imagine what would happen if you were vaping when it blew up. I suppose it only takes a scare like that to stop using unprotected batteries. Hopefully this will scare enough people that they stop using un protected batteries. Thanks for posting.

Sorry to hear about that Robert. Glad to see it was not worse.

  6. Ouch! Not only vaping on a device called a Detonator, but using unprotected batteries!!! Well, at least the Detonator lives up to the name. Take care of that one, "that's gonna leave a scar".

    Also FYI-

I thought Ultra Fire might be better also but look at the Ultra fire I got 3 days ago- What is written on them is a lie- There is NO PCB on these batteries- it is a complete lie!

I asked Cisco - in Video Chat on Nu- Vapor he has been testing protected CR2's that are only 600mah- the problem with them he saysa is that the PCB will not allow enough current to flow to fire a 510 atty.

Also he showed me CR2 with a PCB- they have a little ridge at the bottom and are slightly 1-2 mm longer- The PCB has to take up some space- a PCB has to be somewhere and take up space if it's there! These do no- they are exactly the same size as any unprotected CR2 I have used -

Ultra Fire is lying or who ever they have make these for them is lying or These are just claiming to be Ultra Fire. Anyway- when I bought these they didn't mention any PCB- They just showed up at my door with this written on them.

Watch Out- we don't know what battery factory makes what- I wont use CR2's to vape anymore!

    Lie- imo

Robert, I’m so sorry to see that you were injured. Thank god it wasn’t worse than it was. I hope your leg is in better shape soon as I know it must be painful. Hang in there buddy.

The leg is healing pretty good, Thanks for all your kind comments.

4 Days after the explosion I have completely re-designed the Detonator so that it uses protected CR123 batteries. The new batteries seem to last much longer, and hit better. The Detonator still uses a voltage regulator and every hit is consistant 5 volts. There is no drop off like a PV using a resistor to achieve 5 volts. Every time the button is pushed you get exactly 5.00 volt to the 510 attomizer.

I will be making a new DIY video soon - so you will be able to make your own 5 volt Protected Detonator CR123a.

    Hey Robert,
Havent posted in a while, but Im glad you were not hurt worse.
Just a message to others, Robert and I had a heated discussion about this subject months ago, and Li-Ion batteries can explode wether they are protected or not.
Less likely with PCB for sure, BUT .....................
    It happens.

Take care and be careful out there!

And it also does not help when you make a half assed mod that obviously shorted and caused the batts to discharge way tooooooo fast causing them to swell/explode BUY FROM a SAFE modder not some wacko jbwelding random stuff together and sticking pvc pipe in it lolololol how dumb is that???

Honestly Say it was just the batts fault not the mods im betting the mod caused a short and seeing how these batts are very tempermental BOOM.... you have pvc plastic in your mod if it explodes that can melt and harm you more lol

GIVE IT UP Stop modding you a disgrace

  17. Oh man I am so sorry to hear this has happened to you. I'm just happy that you are recovering well and I suppose for your sake glad this has happened to you and not one of your customers. I hope you heal completely and wish you all the best.

Guys... I think he's learned his lesson. I also had debates with Rob. Even gave him the calculations to prove the vent holes were not going to do anything but this is not the way I hoped it would end for him.

Robert I hope you have been busy contacting all your customers to warn them and offer a recall of your Detonators. To not do so leaves you wide open to loose everything if someone else gets hurt!!

And FOR GOD's SAKE take your videos down off YouTube!!!!

Work out how do you STOP someone using unprotected batts in it. If the Detinator does not make contact on an unprotected bat and the user has to mod it to take one then that would be a good thing and keep you covered. Remember you are responsible for any injury that your devices cause.

Well first off my mod wasn't the first to use two CR2's I wouldn't do it any more -

It now use 2 protected CR123a's still stacking these is not the safest thing you can do.

If you'd like to discuss the jb weld or just how much of a wacko I am you can find me on Video chat late at night - have a nice day and thanks for your interest.

Right you are not the first to use Cr2's but your mod is the first to be the most Unsafe POS i have ever seen SOOOOOO I dont think it was the batts it was that craptastic mod you should be calling all the ppl you sold them to and giving them refunds for them to return that DEVICE Notice i wont even call it PV
