Was just setting up a new coil and wick for my zap and thought i might try it with the insulator taken out that way i can fit a larger wick. Has anyone tried this and if you did, did it perform better or no difference
    Thanks

Both work - I use some tally-ho as an insulator, some use gladwrap, but if you’ve done a good job on the wick - none at all works also. Start at 3V on the provari and work your way up till you get even glowing goodness.

Think the ZAP has a step at the base of the wick hole for the insulator to sit on stopping it falling into tank, so would make no difference unless you drilled it out to remove the step

The newer ones do, but it is only very minor and still allows for a much wider wick than with the insulator. It's how I run my ZAP, Zen Mini and did run my Zen Standard.
You don't want that piddly little wick. pull the insulator out and go for it! :D

Always run without an insulator on any of my gennies. Don't see the need if you spend a little time on the wick and charcoal the crap out of it! :)

I've gone back to using them with the insulator in and don't really notice much of a difference other than it is heaps easier to set up with it in. I can just grab some mesh, torch it once, put some juice on and burn it off, then wrap a coil and be good to go.

I had stopped using them too, but found #400+ too much of a pain, with a bit of tall-ho for insulation, set up is like CMB says - too easy!

I know, go and stand in the corner for being a genny wuss...
