Not even a full day with these crappy trustfire 14650s in the mini VP woodie. Instead of 1600mAh as labelled I reckon they are less than 700. I think a mod like this should go for at least a full day and also work with LR atties so my apologies @ Sik as I wont be offering this one for sale. To get a viable mini version I've ordered some nano-tech LiPos rated at 850mAh but they are coming by snail mail from HK. With 2 of these cells it should go a full day, be able to drive LRs no problem and I can reduce the height of this mini another 10mm.

No dramas at all mate, love your work and the fact you wont let a sub par product out of the bat cave. Personally I would definately trade off 3 days of charge for a unit that is smaller. I fully understand that you are trying stuff out as you go and a "mini" may never be viable but if one may be in the pipe I am completely content to wait :)

Yeah it was originally glued with PVA. I used a small paint brush to apply and PVA is somewhat conductive so try and keep the dribbles to a minimum.

May ultimately have to find something better than PVA but it's good for prototyping in that the lid can still be removed so firmware can be updated or hardware modded.

Received a sample of the new rounded enclosure for the 2x18650 mod today so promptly built it up. It's size is a quite comfortable 90x47x25mm. This one is made of beech but my timber modeller is not sure if it's local or european. He will now make 10 of this style enclosure in assorted hardwoods......stay tuned

The LED is mounted on the PCB which sits between the 2 18650 cells and these all slide in from the top. To mount the LED on the side I'd have to attach wires (4) to it so it's not mounted rigidly to the PCB, doable but a right PITA. With the LED now being dimmable I don't think it's such an issue and I've noticed that with the mini & mids I keep having to turn them to look at the LED

I may consider this if I can get the PCB quantities up to what's needed for machine loading. At the moment I'm loading these manually.

By loading do u mean soldering? A lot of ppl have basic soldering skills a instruction sheet on what goes where should be enough

You'd need more than basic soldering skills and equipment to load this PCB as it uses surface components some of which have 0.5mm pitch lead spacing. I use an air operated syringe dispenser to apply solder paste, fine tweezers to place the components and a small infra-red oven that has a specific temperature/time profile to reflow the solder.

At the request of a prospective buyer I was asked if a big button could be fitted to the rounded enclosure I displayed a few posts back....Well I mananged to squeeze one in and that mod has now been sold. So I guess there will be a choice now of small or large buttons.

I like that a lot. "Dresses" the mod up quite a bit.
