After taking apart the atomizer, I am finally understanding how it all comes together.

Firstly, your standard JoyE 510 atty, as I measured it, has a resistance of about 3 ohms, give or take 0.5. Close enough to the reported 2.2. The pictures should be pretty self explanatory, however, don't be afraid to comment and ask a question.

This little experiment paves the way forward for my own homemade atomizer. Will be trying to do it either this weekend or next weekend, depending on how busy life gets.

Nice dissection, but just a couple of points if i may.
Standard Joye 510 is 2.2 ohm. Either you've not taken into account the internal resistance of your multimeter or it is non-genuine. Typical variance is +/- .1 ohm.
The white "plastic" cup is (should be) ceramic.
The centre contact is positive, the threaded outer is negative - not that it really matters to the heating coil.

Aha! Thank you very much! This was just from my testing with a $15 multi-meter, which is by no means 100% accurate.

Are you sure that the cup is ceramic? Tried scratching it on a stone surface and the scrape felt a lot like plastic. Might have to try again! :)

    Nice Stoney! :D

Here is the beginning of my homemade atty. Wire never turned red, which is a good sign, however, I was getting quite a putrid smell :( I am thinking that I either need to reduce the resistance, the voltage, or test the temperature :p

Anyone got a spare infra red thermometer? :p

What .comge wire are using?????? and what material is it? It should glow unless it's being cooled as it vapourises juice. If it isn't glowing then your resistance is too low. Usually 32 or 34 AWG nichrome is used.
